Grand Prize Winner in the PG Hospice Society Dream Home Lottery

October 31, 2011

Charlene Floer is the winner of the
PG Hospice Society Dream Home Lottery

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Hospice Society would like to thank everybody who supported the Dream Home Lottery and congratulate the grand prize winner – Charlene Floer (pron: floor) of Prince George. Charlene purchased the winning ticket at the Dream Home October 27th, the day before the end of the Lottery.

The grand prize draw was conducted at 8pm on October 28th in front of a large group of onlookers who came out to witness the draw and watch Mike Benny pull ticket number 7680 from among the 7748 tickets in the draw barrel. Charlene was contacted moments later by phone and advised of her good fortune. The excitement in her voice was very evident and she immediately came up to the house to claim her prize.

"It just felt right, it just felt like something I had to do." recalls Floer of the ticket purchase. "I had been thinking about (purchasing a ticket) for a couple of weeks and one of the girls at work mentioned that the draw was on Friday and I thought 'oh I have to go up there and get my ticket' so I came up and got here just as the house was closing up."

"I was absolutely thrilled and very happy for Charlene and Tom," said Donalda Carson, Executive Director of the Prince George Hospice Society. "They were amazingly thankful and grateful for the prize she had won and for the Hospice Society. For them this is a big boost in their lives. They're ordinary people with ordinary jobs and the same concerns that the average person might have and I'm just so thrilled to see them planning to move into their Dream Home."

"I knew this was going to be a life changing experience for somebody," said Dream Home Lottery Coordinator, Ron Gallo. "To witness Charlene's excitement, to see the emotion and to feel the gratitude of such a momentous event is absolutely touching and makes this all worthwhile."

The next steps in the process will be to transfer the house into the winner's name which will get started here in the next few days. Charlene Floer has indicated that she will be giving notice at her current residence with a desire to be moved into her new home before the end of November.

Special Recognition of the 100th Day Milestone in the Dream Home Lottery

October 6, 2011

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – Today marks the 100th day of the Dream Home Lottery and the Prince George Hospice Society would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Brent Marshall of the Northland Auto Group who has recognized this milestone with the purchase of 100 Dream Home Lottery tickets. The ticket purchase is to support the cause behind the lottery and to recognize employees and customers of the Northland Auto Group.

"It's a little outside the box but it's part of the whole business philosophy we have," said Brent Marshall. "To buy a hundred of these tickets and then to give them to my employees and customers, the people that support us, and then they can win a home; what better gift would there be? And the money from all that goes to a good cause with the Hospice Society; it doesn't get much better than that for me."

"I think it is incredibly important that we support a local cause like this," continued Marshall. "This shouldn't just be about buying a ticket to win a house. Yes you could win a house or another prize, but it should be that the $100 went to help other people. I want to make sure people aren't overlooking that this isn't just about a lottery. This is about raising money to help meet the funding needs of the Prince George Hospice Society."

The Lottery was started to raise funds for the annual operational requirements of the Rotary Hospice House. The purchase of these tickets is a huge step forward for the Dream Home Lottery which is into its 100th of 122 days. Those will be drawn just two weeks before the Grand Prize Draw for the $440,000 custom built energy efficient Dream Home in the Creekside Properties Subdivision of Prince George.

Rise Construction along with Winton Global have built one of the most energy efficient homes in Prince George with an EnerGuide Rating of 86. From the double vapour barrier insulated Styrofoam concrete foundation to the double insulated walls and triple pane glass, the Dream Home is expected to save 43% in energy costs above other homes built today. Green concerns are also addressed with its on-demand tankless hot water system, first of its kind in Canada 13-stage furnace and air source heat pump that all contribute to reduce the carbon footprint of the Dream Home.

Viewing hours for the Dream Home are now Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 7pm. Tickets are available at the Dream Home, the Hospice Society offices in Forest Expo House, Rona, Hart Home Hardware, Canadian Tire, the Northern Hardware, Uniglobe Sunburst Travel & Cruises, Husky Travel Centre and the Hart Pharmacy. PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The Prince George Hospice Society is extremely encouraged and excited by the latest trends in the Dream Home Lottery that has seen ticket purchases climb to within the 3,000 total. This past week saw a new record for visitors into the house located at 7583 Stillwater Crescent in the Creekside Properties subdivision at the end of Malaspina Avenue in College Heights. There continues to be lots of buzz about this city’s newest lottery home with people streaming to the house located at 7583 Stillwater Crescent in the Creekside Properties subdivision at the end of Malaspina Avenue in College Heights. Although there is no turnstile into the house, it is safe to say that there has been close to 3,000 people through the house already with averages now over 200 people a day during normal viewing hours. All of those visitors, not to mention those that haven’t seen the house yet but have made a ticket purchase just the same, have pushed ticket purchases close to the 2000 mark.

Tickets are also available 24/7 using the ticket hotline number of 1-866-419-7604. A new location has been added for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Save On Foods on Domano Boulevard.

Last week the house was opened for a PG tweetup attended by 28 of Prince George’s social media promoters and this Thursday I have been invited down to ICBC to make a presentation to the staff during their lunch break. These are just a couple of the many ways that the community is showing its support for the Hospice Society Dream Home Lottery. If you would like more information on an Open House or another opportunity, please feel free to contact Ron Gallo through the Hospice Society.

The Hospice Society would like to thank all of the retailers that have shown an interest in providing space to set up a table and make tickets available at their place of business. The support for this major fundraising venture from everyone has been overwhelming and we are extremely excited at the progress of the lottery and its goal of raising funds for the work that is done at the Rotary Hospice House by the Prince George Hospice Society.
